Attracting bewitched travelers for many years, the magical town of Sintra sits within the glorious hills and is sprinkled with fairytale palaces, forests, and ancient castles. Yet another medieval town in the ‘Golf Coast’ of Portugal where Royalty & aristocrats spent many summers in the early 1900’s, and who consequently built the rather extravagant villas, mansions & residences still on show today.

Sintra is perfectly situated to reach the excellent range of golf courses in this popular area just outside of Lisbon. The upmarket Penha Longa Golf Club is one of the most famous in Portugal, being tested as Europe’s best in 1994 & 1995 when the Portuguese Golf Open was held there. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, all the holes are immaculate and many undulate from tee to green. It is a spectacular and very demanding golf course. Also nearby is Golf Quinta da Marinha, an unusual but demanding Robert Trent Jones golf course that is just a few minutes’ drive from Cascais. Unusual, in that it boasts six par 3 holes, and five par 5’s. Like many of the Trent Jones designs, water and sand have been cunningly placed to catch any wayward shots.

Sintra also has excellent sport facilities, including tennis, golf, and horse riding with superb sea views and excellent accommodation choices.
