South; 7072 yds par 72 - A superb golf course and host to numerous Portuguese Golf Opens, this is a tough and very demanding golf course that states its intentions from the beginning; a 425 yard par four is followed by a tough par 5 and another 400+ yard par four. And so it continues until the "best," a par three 15th; 220 yds of carry over water.

Golf Pinta; An outstanding venue designed by Ronald Fream; Golf Pinta> is a real masterpiece that is in excellent condition and home to some beautiful old olive trees. Many of the bunkers are huge and have been placed in the most frustrating places. Water is also a feature on a number of holes notably the par four 13th, the hardest hole on the course.

Golf Morgado and Alamos opened in February of 2003 and March 2005 resectively. The two luxurious relatively new golf courses are situated about 15 km north of Portimão in the Western Algarve.

Golf Vilamoura - Victoria Club Course opened in Spring 2004. This Arnold Palmer design is destined to become one of the great European golf venues and fulfilled the vision when it hosted the 2005 Golf World Cup.

A superb, relatively new venue designed by Howard Swan that is in excellent condition. Boavista Golf is characterised by some extremely tough par three holes; notably the 247 yard, 14th at which a successful tee shot to the green will involve carrying the lake that protects it.

You will find a complete contrast on the Vilamoura Millennium Course between long, open holes that allow you to open your shoulders and very tight, tree lined holes that demand accuracy from the tee. All in all Golf Millennium is an extremely enjoyable golf course and is usually very good value for money.

Designed by Nick Faldo with strategic play in mind this Vilamoura championship golf course demands careful positioning to score well. Opened in the autumn of 2008, the Faldo Course is certainly one that has a different feel to other golf courses on the Algarve. Whatever you may think about his Ryder Cup captaincy, Nick Faldo on this evidence, can certainly design a golf course. When we visited it, the golf course was in absolutely superb condition and whilst the greens were hard this is perhaps to be expected on a new golf course. The first 4 holes are an excellent opening with a long Par 4 to start followed by a Par 3 with a green so large, only we could miss it. The 3rd and 4th are very testing risk and reward holes. The Par 3's were all fun and, with the exception of 7th, not too long. The designer also likes you to play the right club into his greens and there are penalties if you don't.

Golf Vale do Lobo Ocean Course is no less stunning or less manicured than its sister 'Royal Course'. Indeed some of the holes on the Ocean Course are used in the Portuguese Golf Open where they combine the best of both to make up the 'championship' course.

Ranked number eight in Europe by Golf World, Golf San Lorenzo is without question a great golf course. We have played on some greens that would love to be in the same condition as the carpet like fairways that unfold here.

Golf Pinheiros Altos is a Ronald Fream designed golf course that requires very careful thought if good scores are to be posted. The front nine unfolds through tight, pine clad countryside whereas the back nine sees a predominance of water that can ruin the card.

Penina Golf, Henry Cotton's "finest" is the oldest golf course in the Algarve and has hosted the Portuguese Golf Open on numerous occasions. It is a magnificent golf course characterised by only one par five on the front nine but no less than four coming home.

Laranjal Golf, originally an orangery, is today a beautiful and totally different golf experience. The various lakes and streams make this is a real, fun to play, holiday resort golf course that certainly has some very attractive holes. On the other hand, you also have fairways on which you could land a jumbo jet. This doesn't necessarily mean we could hit them but it does make it less daunting when standing on the tee box.

Golf Vilamoura Laguna, as its name suggests, is a golf course where water is the key feature and it comes into play on about 60% of the holes.

Originally designed by Henry Cotton, the superb Golf Vale do Lobo Royal Course is home to one of the most famous holes in golf, the par three 16th "cliff top". This should not distract you from the other seventeen masterpieces that unfold through rich pine and eucalyptus woodland.
