Italy Golf Breaks

Monday, 29 April 2013 17:22:56 Europe/London

I having visited Italy for the last 6 years, and having booked through Driveline for the last three, I was only more than happy to write about my favourite spots, and courses for them. Although not the best known among the world's golf destinations, Italy has class and so does its courses and nowhere better to demonstrate this is the Emilia region. It’s a region known for its natural beauty, rolling hills, unspoilt coastline and fantastic golf. Having rapidly gained popularity, particularly nowadays amongst the young who are drawn to the more buzzing nightlife of places such as Rimini and Salsomaggiore, there are huge amounts of excellent courses set in beautiful locations around the country. My experience golfing in France

Friday, 19 April 2013 14:43:22 Europe/London

I sit at my computer thinking back on the good old years and the many, many rounds of golf that I’ve enjoyed. Friendships made, deals secured and clarity gained. The possibilities held in those first tees, the bunkers and unforgiving hidden dips, those clear shots you dream about and that elusive hole in one. When playing golf in the sunshine, it shows you parts of the course that are sometimes hidden by the grey, and when the course sparkles, I believe, so does my golf! Golf in the UK is great, but never guaranteed, even in summer. Talking about this amongst my golf buddies, we all agree that there really is no better place than France to head to when you are in need of the complete golf holiday package. Plenty of sunshine to warm your soul, magnificent golf courses, delightful cuisine and award winning wine to round off your day perfectly. Since we had all been there at some point, myself just last year through Driveline Golf, we were happy to review our top picks of France for them and their readers. Read More

Golf Holidays in Spain

Monday, 25 March 2013 09:45:23 Europe/London

Come rain, wind, or cold there is nothing that will stop us daft golfers hitting the courses and trying to get that ball in the hole, in as little shots as possible. This year has been hard weather-wise, but we have braved the long chilly winter, the frost, the ice, and last weekend, at last, we were happy to leave the waterproofs at home as the sun emerged from the rare blue skies. Wasn’t it fantastic to feel a bit of warmth on our backs, and as we played our course catch a glimmer of our forgotten yellow friends the daffodils, lining the fairways, which could only mean one thing; spring was on its way. Upon completion of our rounds we felt a tinge of excitement, the weather was turning, and a summer of fantastic golf was ahead.. Read More

Destination of the Month - France

Wednesday, 13 March 2013 13:33:46 Europe/London

France is famous for many things; notably wine, châteaux, gastronomy and romance. As yet it is not internationally famous for golf. Curious, given the close proximity to the UK and the fact that France has more golf courses in the European top 50 than any other country plus many others that we rank very highly. Yet in terms of course usage, France’s splendid golf courses are confined to a few keen locals together with a handful of “Brits” who have discovered its treasures... Read More

Golf Holidays in Madeira

Tuesday, 29 May 2012 15:34:05 Europe/London

I’ve recently visited Madeira to check out its golf courses and also to see for myself how the game should be played. I watched the European Tour pros contesting the Madeira islands Open on the fabulous Santo de Serra course as well as playing in the pro-am before the real competition got under way. Congratulations to Ricardo Santos who romped home at 22 under par – 4 shots ahead of the field and apologies to Oliver Wilson on whom we placed our money thereby instantly condemning him. He finished a further 6 shots behind - joint 4th I think. Read More

To the Golfer.....

Thursday, 8 March 2012 09:35:21 Europe/London

To The Golfer.....

In my hand I hold a ball,
White and dimpled, rather small
Oh, how bland it does appear,
This harmless looking little sphere.

By its size I could not guess
The awesome strength it does possess;
But since I fell beneath its spell
I've wandered through the fires of Hell.

How to avoid the hidden cost of a golf holiday

Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:17:15 Europe/London

If there is one thing that gets on our nerves as golfers who like to play courses across the globe is the hidden charge for carriage of golf clubs that you only discover once you are well into making the booking! It just adds a hefty last minute cost to the price of a golf holiday

You find cheap flights with a low cost airline and then get lumbered with this extra charge. It rankles us and when we hear that Ryanair are now charging around £100 return for club carriage on some routes it rankles us even more.

Golf Holiday with or without Car Rental?

Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:20:48 Europe/London

As seasoned golf travellers who regularly hire cars on arrival in Spain or Portugal, there is one thing that really rankles us.

It is car rental companies that provide a full tank of fuel, charge you for it at the rental desk and then tell you that you can return the car empty. Nobody risks running out of petrol on the last day back to the airport so what do you do? You put in some fuel of course.

Sucha bitter taste when the fuel gauge registers ‘half full’ when you return the vehicle - you’ve paid for a load of fuel you haven’t used and leave with the feeling you’ve been ‘had’!

Golfers Live Longer!

Tuesday, 10 January 2012 10:40:33 Europe/London

Golfers Live Longer! Although deemed as a somewhat ‘low intensity’ sport, it will come as no surprise that Golf, is in essence, good for us. Not only is it a great way to for us to relax mentally, finalise business deals in our professional lives, and keep us fit physically, it has now been proven that golf can actually improve our health & our lifespan!

A team of Swedish researchers from the Karolinska Institute investigated the health benefits of golf for the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports.
