Amateur Golf Tournaments

Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:08:47 Europe/London

What’s a little competition between friends hey? Many of us play amateur competitions throughout the year; against our golf club buddies or against friends at other clubs too. Not many can deny that winning, or even beating a particular person / team, makes us feel (even if temporarily), like we’re on our way to be the next McIlroy or Spieth! Even the feeling of beating our own personal bests, keeps the game exciting, can help lower our handicaps and generally gives a great sense of healthy competitiveness.

Winter Sun; Golf Holidays Abroad

Winter Sun; Golf Holidays Abroad

Britain may be home to some of the greatest golf courses in the world - but unfortunately, fans of the game can't always rely on the weather. Winters render golf largely unplayable, so by the spring a golfer's thoughts naturally turn to the fairway. Resorts around the world have recognised the demand among Brits for golf breaks, devising a multitude of options - from short breaks and a few rounds to more comprehensive packages featuring professional tuition.

Thursday, 20 October 2016 17:32:39 Europe/London

Recently, overseas travel appears to have increased in price - notably it's due to a weak Pound. I'm going to point out one or two ways to minimise the impact. So today, "Tip Number 1"...others will follow in the coming weeks

"Why has the price of my golf holiday increased?"

Friday, 14 October 2016 17:07:26 Europe/London

"Why has the price of my golf holiday increased?" It’s a question we are being asked every day.

The fact is that in most cases travel companies are not randomly increasing prices on overseas golf holidays to swell their coffers…so why are you being asked to pay more?

Firstly, some overseas suppliers in established golf regions have seen a surge in demand in 2016 because of the decline in sales to hitherto emerging golf holiday regions that have become tainted by association with troubled neighbours.

Springtime Golf

Thursday, 5 May 2016 16:40:11 Europe/London

Spring has (eventually!) sprung here in the UK! The clocks have gone back, the birds have started to sing, the lambs are leaping like joyful sprites around the fields (for now!) The grey clouds are starting to slowly disperse, and the sunshine is starting to tickle our pale winter cheeks. Yes, the new season is upon us, and for us Brits, who’ve managed through another bitter winter, this is great news. This is especially exciting for us golfers!

Our No Fees Upfront Holiday Guarantee

Thursday, 7 May 2015 14:50:37 Europe/London

Why it's important to know your holiday is guaranteed. Something struck me during a conversation this week with someone who had tried to book a short break with another company. He had been asked for a holding deposit even though it later transpired his requested tee times were not available. His group was then faced with the unenviable choice of either accepting the company's second best offer or having to go through the process of reclaiming their deposits before looking elsewhere. At Driveline Golf, we offer some of the best-priced golf holiday packages in the UK; to golf groups of all sizes looking to holiday and play in Europe and beyond. Although our prices are extremely competitively priced, we know all too well that you often have to pay additional and quite hefty fees to get your clubs to your destination, via the airlines, and that’s on top of your baggage fees. One airline for instance adds on £100 just for your golf clubs’ return-travel. For this reason, many will opt to hire clubs at the courses. However, if you are serious about your game, and your clubs complement your play, you of course want to take them.

Italy Golf Breaks

Monday, 29 April 2013 17:22:56 Europe/London

I having visited Italy for the last 6 years, and having booked through Driveline for the last three, I was only more than happy to write about my favourite spots, and courses for them. Although not the best known among the world's golf destinations, Italy has class and so does its courses and nowhere better to demonstrate this is the Emilia region. It’s a region known for its natural beauty, rolling hills, unspoilt coastline and fantastic golf. Having rapidly gained popularity, particularly nowadays amongst the young who are drawn to the more buzzing nightlife of places such as Rimini and Salsomaggiore, there are huge amounts of excellent courses set in beautiful locations around the country. My experience golfing in France

Friday, 19 April 2013 14:43:22 Europe/London

I sit at my computer thinking back on the good old years and the many, many rounds of golf that I’ve enjoyed. Friendships made, deals secured and clarity gained. The possibilities held in those first tees, the bunkers and unforgiving hidden dips, those clear shots you dream about and that elusive hole in one. When playing golf in the sunshine, it shows you parts of the course that are sometimes hidden by the grey, and when the course sparkles, I believe, so does my golf! Golf in the UK is great, but never guaranteed, even in summer. Talking about this amongst my golf buddies, we all agree that there really is no better place than France to head to when you are in need of the complete golf holiday package. Plenty of sunshine to warm your soul, magnificent golf courses, delightful cuisine and award winning wine to round off your day perfectly. Since we had all been there at some point, myself just last year through Driveline Golf, we were happy to review our top picks of France for them and their readers. Read More

Golf Holidays in Spain

Monday, 25 March 2013 09:45:23 Europe/London

Come rain, wind, or cold there is nothing that will stop us daft golfers hitting the courses and trying to get that ball in the hole, in as little shots as possible. This year has been hard weather-wise, but we have braved the long chilly winter, the frost, the ice, and last weekend, at last, we were happy to leave the waterproofs at home as the sun emerged from the rare blue skies. Wasn’t it fantastic to feel a bit of warmth on our backs, and as we played our course catch a glimmer of our forgotten yellow friends the daffodils, lining the fairways, which could only mean one thing; spring was on its way. Upon completion of our rounds we felt a tinge of excitement, the weather was turning, and a summer of fantastic golf was ahead.. Read More

Destination of the Month - France

Wednesday, 13 March 2013 13:33:46 Europe/London

France is famous for many things; notably wine, châteaux, gastronomy and romance. As yet it is not internationally famous for golf. Curious, given the close proximity to the UK and the fact that France has more golf courses in the European top 50 than any other country plus many others that we rank very highly. Yet in terms of course usage, France’s splendid golf courses are confined to a few keen locals together with a handful of “Brits” who have discovered its treasures... Read More

How to avoid the hidden cost of a golf holiday

Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:17:15 Europe/London

If there is one thing that gets on our nerves as golfers who like to play courses across the globe is the hidden charge for carriage of golf clubs that you only discover once you are well into making the booking! It just adds a hefty last minute cost to the price of a golf holiday

You find cheap flights with a low cost airline and then get lumbered with this extra charge. It rankles us and when we hear that Ryanair are now charging around £100 return for club carriage on some routes it rankles us even more.

Golf Holiday with or without Car Rental?

Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:20:48 Europe/London

As seasoned golf travellers who regularly hire cars on arrival in Spain or Portugal, there is one thing that really rankles us.

It is car rental companies that provide a full tank of fuel, charge you for it at the rental desk and then tell you that you can return the car empty. Nobody risks running out of petrol on the last day back to the airport so what do you do? You put in some fuel of course.

Sucha bitter taste when the fuel gauge registers ‘half full’ when you return the vehicle - you’ve paid for a load of fuel you haven’t used and leave with the feeling you’ve been ‘had’!

The 14-time major winner opened his 2012 season with a solid first round Thursday at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, shooting a 2-under 70 that left him three strokes behind co-leader Rory McIlroy, his playing partner. "Hit the ball well all day today. It was a good ball-striking round," Woods said. "I had a hard time reading the greens out there. The greens were pretty grainy and I just had a hard time getting a feel for it. Toward the end I hit some pretty good putts but overall I got fooled a lot on my reads." Read More
